I Heart Tanya Dziahileva :)

October 30, 2009

Danny Roberts Painting of Elites lovely models tanya dziahileva

Well, Happy Friday!
Gen Art was amazing!
I had so much fun!
It was in an automotive museum.
I've never been much for cars, but this place was a treasure!
I mean i saw the Mock 5!! Yep, i said it, I SAW THE MOCK 5.
Also, it was really great seeing the start of new designers' careers.
I'm going to try to post some pictures up really soon! :)

So, not sure how many people know who Tanya Dziahileva is,
but she basically has my all time favorite eyes!
She is so amazing looking.
While my brother and I were sitting in Bryant Park during NYFW,
Tanya came and sat at a bench across from us.
I wanted to ask her if i could sit and draw her, but i was too timid.. haha
Oh well, it would have been incredible, she seemed really nice.

I'm going to have to get ready for a Halloween party tonight...
Looks like i'm going to be "Tom Ripley" from the movie "The Talented Mr. Ripley"... haha
I hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Coco-Pumpkin Pie

October 28, 2009

A portrait of Danny Roberts holding a pumpkin he painted of Model Coco Rocha

Hahaha I did it!! Well, kind of.... haha
So I tried, key word TRIED, to carve a pumpkin today...
Yes, it was kind of a major failure...
Don't get me wrong, i had a blast attempting to cut that thing to pieces.
By the time i was done, the pumpkin was falling apart!
So, i regrouped and thought I would paint the back-up pumpkin.
And who better to paint than the pumpkin haired model Coco Rocha!
So, a few hours later, this was the by product.
Ok, so i know it's kinda trippy looking, but it was my first time painting on something spherical.
I hope you like it! Oh, also going to Gen Art's Fresh Faces in Fashion show tomorrow night.
Pretty excited to see the new designers.
Also, what do you think of the new site?
Well, it's kinda a new site. Spent the day working on cleaning the look of the blog up. :)
Well, my friends, i hope you like the pumpkin and Happy Early Halloween.

Wow, wait a sec!
I almost forgot to mention something...
Where are my manners?
I heard from Alexa Chung!!!!!
I got a message from her today, saying thank you for the painting.
Thank you, thank you friends for your help; really means alot!!!
And Alexa, if you're reading this, thank you so much, definitely made my day!
And if you want the painting, i would be happy to send it to you! ;)

Oh yea if you have Lookbook you can Vote for the look here ;)

Danny Roberts Featured in Vogue Germany

"Californian Danny Roberts draws hundreds of runway looks and fashion magazine covers on his blog named "Igor & André". His excellent illustrations speak for themselves. Now his pictures become fashion: Several labels use his works on their outfits such as Gwen Stefani's (fashion line) Harajuku Lovers.
At Vogue.com you can see a selection of his creations."

WOW! So today was an amazing day, packed with wonderfulness! haah
I woke to being featured in Vogue Germany! (which is always a good start of the day).
Then, I met with the wonderful Aurora from GenArt,
and spent the rest of the day drawing.
Sounds pretty nice, huh? haha

So I've been going through the all the old Disney Classics lately.
Seriously, I don't think there are any better movies made!
Watched Dumbo a few nights ago, and then Bambi last night.
My mind was blown!
This may sound silly, but i think Bambi is the best movie made, out of any movies.
It's perfect. Absolutely perfect!
I hope to make a movie like it some day! :)

Anyway, if you want to see the Vogue Germany Article Click Here .
Also, MY KRØJER did a wonderful portrait of me today! Thank you so much! It's amazing. Click here to see the portrait.

Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Danny Roberts Fashion painting of the Erin Fetherston collection

Hey hey hey!~
How are yawl doing on this fine Thursday?
Well, 3 days, still no word yet from Alexa Chung...
but don't worry, i will let you know if i do!
On the flip side, sometimes you never hear back...
like Taylor Swift, which i eventually got the painting to her people...
but never heard if she liked them or not. ;(

Anyway, today was another day of non stop drawing!
Finished two drawings and starting on my third in a few minutes.
The post today is a painting of Erin Fetherston's Collection that i did for Sundance Chanel's Full Fontal Fashion.
I first saw this collection looped on a tv at Erin Fetherston's after party.
I was invited to the after party by Bianca from Modelinia and met up with Rumi (Fashiontoast) and her boyfriend Colin, and Krystal Simpson.
Also, Rumi introduced me to the Facehunter that night.
All and all, it was a wonderful night!
And thank you, Rumi and Colin, for those cookies! mmmmm :)

The Day of Donna Karan

October 21, 2009

This is Painting of Donna Karan Fall 2009 Collection by Danny Roberts

Well, hello friends.
How's your day going?
The weather out here in California is incredible today!
I'm loving it.
Spent the whole morning drawing,
and about to start up a new painting in a sec...
but i remembered i had never posted about The Donna Karan Show at NY Fashion Week.
I went with my brother and the beautiful and amazing Miss Gala Gonzalez.
Oh, and the drawing above is one of the drawings i did for
Sundance Chanel's Full Fontal Fashion of Donna Karan's Collection.
I hope you like it!

The Day of Donna Karan
Sept 14, 2009

It was probably the three weeks of working night and day without a day off, or maybe it was the the time change, or it was both,
but either way, exhaustion had finally crept up on me. The day began as one of the most hectic days yet. My brother and I got up a little late,
to a text message from Rumi (Fashiontoast). She said that she just found out that her flight went out earlier than she thought,
and that she and Colin wouldn't be able to make it to the Donna Karan show,
which was a bummer because Rumi and Colin are incredibly fun to hang out with.

All week, I was trying to coordinate schedules with the lovely Miss Gala Gonzalez (am-lul.blogspot.com), and then it hit me. I thought,
"What if Gala went to Donna Karan with us?!"
So after a few calls and texts, Gala was in. Dave and I hopped into a cab and headed down to Greenwich Village.
We arrived minutes before the time we were suppose to be there. After a little time had gone by, I got a text from Gala saying she had arrived.
Dave and I made our way through the craziness, and we finally meet Gala in person. I have to say, meeting Gala was a trip highlight, for sure.
She is amazing, and her accent is awesome, one of the most unique accents I've heard.

After greeting each other, we ascended up to the showroom and were ushered into our seats, where seconds later, to our amazement,
Milla Jovovich was seated directly in front of us. Donna Karan's Trademark "zen" vibe filled the place. The whole room hushed as the music began.

As the first model stepped into sight, I was again reminded why Donna Karan is a Fashion Icon.
The Collection had a soft and beautiful color pallet, full of gray, creme, and white with a striking red that made the collection pop.
Whether you are looking for long, amazing, flowing gowns or incredible pencil skirts, this line has it all,
with silhouettes that celebrate the female form and drape that flows like running water.
Basically, I was honored to attend such a wonderful show, and the clothes were breathtaking! :)

After leaving the show and saying goodbye to Gala and her amazing friends,
my brother and I headed off to the Conde Nast building to meet up with the wonderful Naomi Nevitt of Teen Vogue.
She was kind enough to give us a tour of Teen Vogue, which was incredible,
and we ended up sitting and talking with her for quite awhile. It was amazing getting to know her as she is a wonderful and incredibly kind.
Upon arriving back at our hotel, exhaustion fully took over.
I lay down to rest for a moment, and the next thing I knew, it was 15 hours later! hah

Hello, hello Friends,
So, this weekend, I had a great discovery on youtube... "ALEXA CHUNG"!!!
Haha yep! Where have I been!
I stumbled on to her interview with Harry Potter,
and i was laughing so hard!
There aren't many talk shows that i watch or really like all that much.
Her show is amazing.
So I did this painting; I Thought it would be a perfect for my Pop Culture Series,
Plus she looks amazing on the Magazine Cover.
I hope you like it!
Whenever i do a painting of a person, i like to give it to them as a thank you.
I feel like they are part owner of the picture,
because the painting couldn't exist without the person.
With that said, I was wondering if you all could help me get the painting to her?
I was wondering if you can help me tweet her this painting,
Maybe if we can send her enough messages she might see it. :)
Her twitter account name is "alexa_chung"
and if you read this, Alexa, please email me and i will send you the painting :)
Thank you, my friends. i hope you all are having a wonderful day!

Update: Alexa twitted me! She is wonderfully amazing! thank you all :)

Vogue Brazil Article on the history of Fashion Illustration

Vogue Brazil October 2009 Cover

Hey Friends!!@
How are you doing today?
I'm having a wonderful day.
It's pouring rain outside and my windows are open with cold fresh air pouring in.
I'm just sitting and painting & listening to an amazing playlist of music.
The music definitely fits the mood for today.
I'm water coloring right now.
It's my first time in a really long time that i have used actually straight up water colors.
I forgot how much i like to water color!

Oh, so the other day i was asked what i listened to when i make art,
which gave me an idea...
I was thinking of making a my own Online Radio Station,
where i would Broadcast the music i'm currently listing to as i paint.
That way, if you all wanted to you could listen and sit and paint along!
Let me know what you think of the idea. :)

OK, so you know how my favorite hobby is drawing Vogue Covers, well....
also, I'm featured In VOGUE Brazil!!
How amazing is that! i'm kinda flipping out! haa
It's such an honor, especially having my work sitting next to
Andy Warhol & Christian Lacroix art work.
The article is incredibley well written and super interesting.
It's on the history of Fashion Illustration and how it's beginning to return again.
Thank you, Cynthia, from Vogue! You are incredible.

Danny Roberts Painting of Photographer Irving Penn Self Portrait of him in Military uniform

Painting by Danny Roberts of Kate Moss Nude irving penn photo

Well Friends, We all lost a genius today.
Legendary photographer Irving Penn died today at age 92.
I have to say, I'm pretty bummed about his passing.
I feel like the number of Old Great Artists like him keep dwindling down.
He is one of my all time favorite photographers...a true inspiration...
I mean, he was still working in his 90's!
So awesome! Shoot! He is so, so, so amazing!
I just hope we (young artists) can take the baton and inspire the world like Irving has.

As a Tribute to him,
I thought I'd share these two paintings today.
The first painting is an old picture of Irving Penn in the the military.
The second one is of the Nude Portrait he did of Kate Moss.
I really tried to do the painting in a way that would do justice to Irving's incredible Black & Whites.
I hope you like the pictures.
If you haven't seen Irving Penn's work, please look it up. You will be a fan!

danny roberts collage of a girl playing hide and seek

Hello, my friends!
How was your day?
Spent a good amount of the day drawing.
But i ended up doing another collage for you all :)
I really like how it turned out.
It's kinda trippy looking, and also kinda reminds me of the first Romeo & Juliet painting i did a month back.
I saw this image of the picture of the girl covering her eyes, on the Dream walking Society,
and thought it was amazing!! i love it :)
The picture seriously makes me want to play Hide and Go Seek so bad!
When was the last time you played that game?!
I think I might need to organize a large Hide-N-Seek game in the near future... :)
Well, i hope you're having a great day! :)

P.S. The other day, some of you on Twitter, asked me to post some of the songs i wrote.... thought i would post a little song i wrote a little while back... It's just a simple piano song... I hope you like it :)
