Lovers of the Sea - Layered Art
July 9, 2012

A few days ago, I posted a snap shot of this layered art piece on Instragram. Someone had asked me to post detailed pictures of it, so i thought i would post it today. I built this piece a few years back. I was experimenting with building layered art and taking pictures of it to give it a depth of field. Well, that was the initial concept at least. Anyways, this layered piece was inspired mainly by Jessica Stam in Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2007. The piece was built out of cardboard, watercolor paper, wood, and form core. The parting in the clouds is backed by plexiglass that i misted with white spray paint, so that i could put lighting behind it and make it look like the sky is glowing. The drawing materials were pens, chalk pastel, watercolor, and acrylic paint. It is currently hanging in my studio. ;) I hope you like it :)

Comments:

The layered effect is really dramatic and adds an extra dimension to the artwork.
It is actually 11" deep. It looks amazing on the wall :)
awe thank you Dilan! :)
So basically, I found your blog about a month ago. I have been obsessing over it and your stunning, mind blowing vision every since. CAVEAT: I call myself an artist because I think all art is like a prayer of gratitude, regardless of your skill level. Having said that, I have never been able to sketch very well. Since I found your site, I have challenged myself to sketch every day and see if I could improve my ability. I will NEVER have your talent, that's just a fact but by using your portraits as a kind of "guide", I have improved rapidly. At least I think so. Don't worry, no one will ever look at my "work" and say, You totally bit that off Danny Roberts. But YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME TO CHALLENGE MYSELF!
I just want to say THANK YOU for sharing your incredible gift with us all. I am looking on in awe.
Wow Mirta! you have no clue how much your kind comment means to me. That is so amazing to hear! i'm so excited for you! keep up the good work! :)
